I successfully completed the 3 day Tour Manager training course in November 1999 and have been able to work continuously since that time. But more than that - she works behind the scenes for you and I know I would not have got the breaks I did without her support. I followed her advice and learned the trade by doing short breaks in the UK for 6 months. I was then offered work in Canada and Russia in summer 2007. Wednesday, 07 July 2010 Sue Lewcock: Amsterdam Wednesday 12th September 2007 - exactly 4 months to the day since I completed your Worldwide Travel Training course. The course I didn't think I really needed, but of course I did. And I didn't have to wait for the phone to ring - my first tour to Amsterdam was offered within a fortnight, and I have been working all summer for three different companies - doing short breaks as you suggested to France, Holland, Germany and Belgium - and Uk too. Getting experience and learning and now, thanks to your training and ongoing support and encouragement, I'm taking a group to Canada and the Rockies, followed by what I really wanted to do more than anything - taking a group to New Zealand. I can't thank you or recommend your course enough - without Worldwide Travel Training and your personal commitment to give your students the very best chance of success, I would still be wishing and hoping! Thanks Janet Wednesday, 07 July 2010 Sue Bantin: Well Structured I completed the course in September but was unable to start working until after Christmas. It was an informative and well structured course, giving an in depth insight into all aspects of work as a Tour Manager. Janet was very professional and I made friends who I hope to keep in touch with for a long time to come. Although after submitting CVs, work was slow arriving, I have now completed three UK tours for three different companies. I have another three tours to look forward to in August. I have encountered many of the problems that were warned may happen, but I was well prepared, kept smiling and was able to resolve the issues to the passengers satisfaction. Wednesday, 07 July 2010 Liz Smith: Adrenaline Buzz After spending several years based overseas already working in tourism, family circumstances brought me back to the UK......but as all who know who work in tourism, if you truly enjoy it, it consumes your soul, and all those happy and terrible work experiences really give you an adrenaline buzz. Hence it is extremely hard to give up! By attending Janet's course my goals and dreams were reconfirmed, and now I am able to live i UK and have the privilege to work for Travelsphere, and escort some wonderful tours. The course was perfect. Janet had very thoughtfully put together every aspect of working within tourism, with the understanding of peoples expectations and how to deal with every eventuality, that might occur (and of course it does). The content of the course was detailed, concise, extremely interesting and was a true representation of what to expect when working in the role of Tour Manager. Her personal representation of "first hand" experiences summarised totally her passion and understanding for this particular role. Anyone who wishes to have a greater understanding and appreciation of the role of a "Tour Manager" or anyone who would consider such a position, should put their names down for her course. Wednesday, 07 July 2010 C Thomas: Take off Having completed the course and sent away the CV, nothing happened for nearly two months and the it took off! I have done three trips to the Rhine and Black Forest. April, May and June 2007 saw me aboard a cruise ship and I back there again later in the year. To date I have done nothing in the UK (too busy elsewhere).......Worldwide Travel Training is certainly the key to enter this world!!! Wednesday, 07 July 2010 Anne Groeneveld: Calendar filling upIt took a while for the phone to ring after CVs had been sent but once the phone rings with work it is good to see the calendar filling up. Through choice I have started off with some nice weekend work and day trips but the I had a phone call to see if I would like to take a group to Canada! Wow, here we go, all the training gets put into good use and preparation is definitely the key to success. I used so much of the training material and fortunately the Tour Company gave me lots more info too (what I would term an Idiots Guide!). The first few days away I kept smiling and worked like a robot, very little sleep and ran on nervous energy! The passengers were busy enjoying themselves and didn't know what went on behind the scenes to make things happen and quite rightly so. Then as I got into the swing of things sleep came and a sense of calm returned to me and I started to enjoy the trip too. I have been asked if I would do more and yes I would, these will be along side my short trips to have the best of both. So if you are looking at the guest book and wondering if this is for you, go on you have made that first step and I promise it is well worth the 3 days in Janet's tender care.....thanks again Janet for all your support! Although I already have extensive overseas experience within the travel industry, I found the content to be interesting and informative and I am sure it will be of great assistance in the future. Since I went on a tour of Canada four years ago, which had the services of a tour manager (who Janet trained) I have wanted to do this kind of work. After I completed your Tour Managers Course, I was offered an eight day tour to the Isle of Wight. After I completed the eight days, I was offered six more tours. Now I have completed twenty tours in less than a year! On reflection, I now realise I should have done the course years ago! Will keep in touch. Its great when I meet up with fellow TMs on different tours. I have had my share of problem passengers, accidents, people getting ill on tour. coaches that break down and coaches that have been impounded by the ministry! The biggest thing to remember is to smile, smile, smile......it is a great job! I have been up and down Great Britain, stayed at some wonderful hotels and met some really lovely passengers.....there are never two trips the same! Wednesday, 07 July 2010 Anne Groeneveld: InformativeHaving just completed the November course, words that spring to mind are.....informative, intense, tiring, professional, fun, but above all beneficial. Nothing we learnt or did on the course would not be used in a day in the life of a Tour Manager. Things that I may not have thought about, useful tips and processes to make your days run smoothly. I should have done this years ago but now that I have i will be making the effort after Christmas to change my career and life in 2007 all thanks to the course and Janet's knowledge, support and encouragement. I am glad I took the course at the beginning of my career change as it really does help open doors. Janet has a lot of contacts in the travel industry to help you get off to a good start and even now 18 months on I still hear from her with offers of work. The course is very intensive, but fun and you leave with a wealth of knowledge about the travel industry and being a Tour Manager. I hope to work fairly soon and to try and justify Janet's faith in me. Everyone on the course enjoyed it and when we left, felt that we had achieved something. Janet Goodwin is a brilliant tutor.
