Solo's Holidays advised me to contact Janet and attend her excellent Tour Manager's Course when I made enquiries about becoming a Tour Leader with them. After spending several years based overseas already working in tourism, family circumstances brought me back to the UK......but as all who know who work in tourism, if you truly enjoy it, it consumes your soul, and all those happy and terrible work experiences really give you an adrenaline buzz.  Hence it is extremely hard to give up! Having completed the course and sent away the CV, nothing happened for nearly two months and the it took off!  I have done three trips to the Rhine and Black Forest.  April, May and June 2007 saw me aboard a cruise ship and I back there again later in the year.  To date I have done nothing in the UK (too busy elsewhere).......Worldwide Travel Training is certainly the key to enter this world!!!

It took a while for the phone to ring after CVs had been sent but once the phone rings with work it is good to see the calendar filling up.  Through choice I have started off with some nice weekend work and day trips but the I had a phone call to see if I would like to take a group to Canada!  Wow, here we go, all the training gets put into good use and preparation is definitely the key to success. I used so much of the training material and fortunately the Tour Company gave me lots more info too (what I would term an Idiots Guide!).  The first few days away I kept smiling and worked like a robot, very little sleep and ran on nervous energy!  The passengers were busy enjoying themselves and didn't know what went on behind the scenes to make things happen and quite rightly so.  Then as I got into the swing of things sleep came and a sense of calm returned to me and I started to enjoy the trip too. I have been asked if I would do more and yes I would, these will be along side my short trips to have the best of both.  So if you are looking at the guest book and wondering if this is for you, go on you have made that first step and I promise it is well worth the 3 days in Janet's tender care.....thanks again Janet for all your support!

Thought I would tell you I am still working for Newmarket.  I am now looking forward to my third season with them. Its great when I meet up with fellow TMs on different tours.  I have had my share of problem passengers, accidents, people getting ill on tour. coaches that break down and coaches that have been impounded by the ministry!  The biggest thing to remember is to smile, smile, smile......it is a great job! I have been up and down Great Britain, stayed at some wonderful hotels and met some really lovely passengers.....there are never two trips the same!

I have just returned from the Tour Management course in Peterborough and I simply have to say what a fantastic course it is. Our group was great and both Janet and Elaine delivered the information very well. The course is concise and easy to understand, but the sheer amount of knowledge you gain is simply fantastic. I can guarantee within the three days you will be raring to go out and lead a tour of your own. Highly recommended.

Dear Janet I would like to start by thanking you for your hospitality extended, during our stay in Peterborough. Now to the course. What can I say? It was so well prepared and presented. It certainly gave me a thorough insite into a career which I intend to embark upon. I admire your experience and professionalism and I feel happy that I can always look upon you for advise and guidance as I make a slow and steady progress in this exciting field. I looked at the Newmarket website and there are lots of short breaks in Europe which interest me. Whilst I may not have travelled to some of those destinations, I feel confident to conduct a tour as long as I dont have to guide it through cities. Anita Williams: 3 Day Course

I have just completed 3 days of hard work and oh boy was it worth it? Most definitely!
You know so often you go on training courses and you think what am I doing here and how boring is this. Well how refreshing it was to thoroughly enjoy the action packed full three days. The course was delivered very professionally by trainers that certainly knew all there is to know about so many aspects of travel.
The group were all very friendly and all participated well throughout - people from all walks of life and different ages - so if like me you want to change your life and embark on something you have always fancied doing but never got round to then I would thoroughly recommend this course.Just pick up the phone and change your life - I already have an interview lined up, so wish me luck!

 

Penny Doran: My Course

Following my course, I was invited to go for an interview with Solos for Christmas cover. I was thrilled to see two of my friends that attended Janet's course there also - a mini re-union!!!
Following that initial interview I was invited back for their training day which I will attend in a couple of weeks. I am then "shadowing" a hostess for a weekend in Bath in November which I am really looking forward to ! I have wanted to work for Solos for ages, and I truly believe that the fact I attended the 3-day course hugely helped in my being selected for an interview - it shows how serious you are about wanting to go forward as a Tour Manager.
Since then, I have been offered a weekend trip with Newmarket to see Cliff Richard in Birmingham and I'm hugely looking forward to that - it will be my first assignment (Miss Money Penny !!!). So, the work will start to come in guys and girls - if proof was needed, Anita was with me on my course and she, too, has been offered work!!!
As I said before, just go for it - you will hugely enjoy the professionalism and massive information offered by Janet and her team in Peterborough!

Hi to anyone reading this and those of you that are thinking of having a complete career change ...... just DO IT ! Attending the Worldwide Travel Training course was the best move I have made. Just wanted to update you with my progress, I have got plenty of work coming in and have just completed my very first assignment - a Murder Mystery Weekend and it was brilliant!Thanks to Janet and her team at Worldwide Travel for always being on hand for support and, yep, it doesn't just stop when you have attended the course, so thanks again !
